Terri Altland, the center’s vice president of Visitor Engagement, will assume the interim role while the organization continues its search to replace Joan Mummert, who retires April 30.

York, Pa. – The York County History Center Board of Directors took the next step in the process for replacing the retiring Joan Mummert, naming Terri Altland interim president and CEO for the organization.

The board approved the action in March. Altland is the History Center’s vice president of Visitor Engagement. She will move into the interim assignment May 1. Mummert’s last day is April 30.

Altland was hired in 2014 as Director of Development, overseeing the organization’s membership and fundraising efforts, including the capital campaign to build the new museum. In 2019, she moved to Visitor Engagement to direct day-to-day operations, leading a 10-person team that manages public programs and education programs, organizes special events and provides visitor services.

Before joining the History Center, Altland held various fundraising and management positions at the Gettysburg Foundation, York Habitat for Humanity and the City of York in the Recreation and Parks Bureau.

Dennis Baughman, chairman of the History Center Board, said the organization will be well served by having Altland lead until a replacement is hired. A search committee has started the work of accepting and reviewing applications. A new president and CEO is expected to be in place by August.

“Ms. Altland has significant experience in the operation and management of the Center, and the Board is confident her skills will be an asset during this assignment,” Baughman said. “She possesses the skills and experience that will allow the History Center to continue its outstanding programming to individuals, school groups and community organizations electing to visit the center.”

Altland is a graduate of Spring Grove Area High School and Lock Haven University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Parks Management. She lives in Spring Grove with her husband, Paul. They have one daughter, Ally Altland of Rochester, N.Y.
