Traveling Trunks

Trav Trunk

History in the Classroom

Traveling trunks have become a popular and viable teaching tool with the contents of each trunk meant to motivate students to reflect on the life and
times of the past.

Through various clothing items, military accoutrements, pastime activities, photographs, music and literature, students will be able to better appreciate what daily life was like. Choose from two different trunks, one featuring items related to Colonial America and the other related to life for soldiers and civilians during the Civil War. Various lessons and activities have been included in each trunk. We encourage you to use these at your discretion, realizing of course that your school will only be keeping the trunk for two weeks.

Request a Traveling Trunk

The Visitor Experience Department should be contacted at least three weeks in advance to sign out a trunk for a period of 10 school days.  Contact schools@yorkhistorycenter.org to request a trunk. Trunks are offered free of charge to our educational members. Trunks are $25.00 each for non-member schools, educational institutions or children’s groups. Trunks can be picked up at the History Center between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday. An organization may only sign out one trunk at a time and are most appropriate for grades 2-6.
