History Center building to close Friday morning

The History Center Museum building will be closed Friday morning, Aug. 29, as T-Mobile conducts emergency repairs to its equipment on the smokestack. The work will require closing Pershing Avenue in front of our building starting at 7 a.m. Colonial Complex tours are available at 1 and 3 p.m. only, and the Agricultural and Industrial Museum will open normally at 10 a.m. The History Center Museum will re-open no later than noon. Thank you for your patience.

Recently, several documents were transferred from the Collections Department to the Library and Archives regarding York Veteran Paul Daugherty. Paul was a navigator on a bomber crew during World War II. During a mission over Europe, his aircraft was shot down, and he was captured and interned as a prisoner in Austria. The above scan is a prisoner information form, in German. The History Center has a large collection of documents on Paul’s service and life, along with several of his navigational instruments. His story is one of the hundreds of veterans’ stories the Library and Archives have collected.
