Why give to the History Center during Give Local York?
The opening of the new History Center Museum, Library and Archives gives York a true best-in-class visitor destination. The community generously supported us to help make the project happen. And we still need your help: to store and care for our large collection of artifacts and archive materials; to maintain the historic buildings that we make available to the public; to pay the talented, experienced staff that manages the collections and provides the programming that are at the core of our work.

Give strategically
The folks who organize Give Local York have developed a long list of prizes and challenges scheduled throughout the day to make it fun to give. We’re asking you to think about donating at a few key times to have your gifts make even more of an impact. Here are the times we are targeting – let the reminder setting begin!
May 1
9 p.m. Fulton First Hour Prize. Most individual donors from 9-10 p.m. Whether you join us at The Handsome Cab for History Trivia from 7-9 p.m. or you log in on your phone for the start, set up that first gift right at 8:59 and be ready to hit donate when the clock hits 9:00. One winner receives $1,000.
May 2
1:35 a.m. The McConkey Minute of Impact. Most unique donors at 1:35. McConkey Insurance celebrates its 135th anniversary. The challenge is to receive as many donations as possible in one minute. One winning organization receives $1,890.
10 a.m. The GRIT Morning Brunch Prize. First organization to receive 15 unique donors starting at 10 a.m. Mid-morning is a slow time for donations. We’re looking for 15 people to commit to donating right at 10 a.m. One winning organization receives $1,000.
1:50 p.m. The Members 1st Federal Credit Union Match Minute. Members 1st will match all gifts up to $100 until the $1,000 match is depleted. This is a good way for your donation to be doubled by the match. Be ready to give at 1:50 p.m.
5:15 p.m. The Happy Hour Prize. The organization that receives a donation closest to 5:15 will receive an extra $1,000 from Alternative HR, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary. Be ready to give at 5:15 p.m.
7:23 p.m. The C.S. Davidson 1923 Prize. Starting at 7:23 p.m. C.S. Davidson will match the first 10 $100 gifts. Hit donate at 7:23 p.m.
8 p.m. The Final Countdown Prize. Organizations that receive the most individual donations from 8-8:59 p.m. receive prizes. Three winners: $600 for first place, $300 for second place, $100 for third place.
The History Center has two big challenges: Reaching our goal of 100 new donors will unlock a prize of $1,000. And reaching the overall fundraising goal of $80,000 will unlock $3,000. Both matches have been generously provided by Steve and Cindy Merrick.
