History Center building to close Friday morning

The History Center Museum building will be closed Friday morning, Aug. 29, as T-Mobile conducts emergency repairs to its equipment on the smokestack. The work will require closing Pershing Avenue in front of our building starting at 7 a.m. Colonial Complex tours are available at 1 and 3 p.m. only, and the Agricultural and Industrial Museum will open normally at 10 a.m. The History Center Museum will re-open no later than noon. Thank you for your patience.

The Susquehanna Ramblers love rambling the ruins of history of the Lower Susquehanna River hills and tributaries. The Ramblers – Jay Mackley, Dennis Brooks and Chip Fulmer – enjoy talking about their trips via foot and boat, as well. They’ll be doing just that in their presentation at their 7 p.m. Sept. 4 meeting of York County Writers’ Roundtable. They’ll tell the roundtable’s audience how they pick their destinations, often to see obscure natural and man-made features along the river. They’ll tell how they research what they find, a quest that includes archival work. And they’ll talk about how they write in an entertaining way about their rambles. The Writers Roundtable is a quarterly networking group of folks who love local history.
