The York County History Center publishes an annual scholarly journal called the Journal of York County Heritage.  Periodically books on local history topics by local authors are also published.  All publications can be purchased in our Gift Shop and online store.  Below are recent publications, as well as links to the Journal submission guide and the Journal digital bookcase.

The 2024 Journal is on sale now

This year’s Journal is a commemorative edition focusing on the Met-Ed Steam Plant, the new home of the History Center. The 2023 edition and previous versions of the Journal are available for purchase in both our Museum Shop and through our online Gift Shop and Book Store. Buy each previous edition individually, or purchase a combination for special price. They make great gifts for the holidays and other special occasions.

The Journal of York County Heritage Deadline for submitting articles: December 1, 2025

The York County History Center is now accepting articles for the 16th edition of the Journal of York County Heritage to be published in the Fall of 2026. Originally created in 2010 to celebrate York County history, material culture, cultural heritage, and people, articles of original scholarship are requested. Preference will be given to those authors who use the York County History Center’s collection. Photographs and/or other illustrative materials are encouraged, but not required. Generally, the manuscript must be original, unpublished, written in English, and limited to 3,000 words. The History Center especially encourages articles that explore diverse York County communities.

For the 2026 edition, we especially seek articles related to the American Revolution in York County. Endnotes and bibliography are required. Shorter pieces: The editors are also seeking short articles (250-750 words) highlighting aspects of York County history. The pieces should be well sourced, but not necessarily footnoted. Please check the Submission Guidelines  and Style Guide before submitting.

Sticks and Stones: The Myers Family in Levittown

Daisy Myers, a longtime teacher in York County, wrote a memoir of her family's experience facing racism and discrimination in the 1950s after becoming the first Black family to move into Levittown, one of Pennsylvania's first suburbs. Updated in 2021 with an epilogue by Daisy's daughter Lynda.
