York County and America’s 250th

Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary Here

York County played a pivotal role in the American Revolution, especially when the Second Continental Congress fled Philadelphia eventually making their way to Yorktown (present day York City) where they spent nine months. As America’s Semiquincentennial quickly approaches the York County History Center is beginning their celebration now and continuing through the 250th anniversary of the Articles of Confederation. We here at the History Center are excited to celebrate this occasion and uplift the stories of all involved in the American Revolution.

    "Revolutionary York"

Opening in July 2026 and running through December 2028, this exhibit explores York County’s pivotal role in American Revolution.  Learn how the people of this rural community responded to war and York’s role as the nation’s capital for nine months from September 30, 1777 through June 27, 1778.  While in York, the Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation, the first constitution of the United States, and negotiated treaties with France that helped win the war.  This exhibit also provides an opportunity to reflect on the 250th anniversary of our country’s independence, the legacy of the Revolution, and the ongoing work toward the American ideals of equality, liberty and freedom.

One County, Countless Stories

Listeners travel to York County to explore its pivotal role in American history through the York County History Center, where exhibits highlight the people, events, and innovations that connect this community to the nation’s broader story. “In the new museum, we have spotlighted dozens of individuals who have shaped York County’s history and how they connect to the events happening nationally.” – Dan Fink, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations
