This is a presentation about the history of the organization not a musical performance.

Why are the Glen Rock Carolers widely recognized as the oldest continuously active carol-singing group in America, having sung Old English Carols throughout the town every single year since 1848?  Darryl J. Engler, Musical Director, will present an illustrated talk about the 178-year history, the people, the songs, the heritage, and a bit of trivia about the group.  Question and answer time will follow.

About our Presenter:

Darryl J. Engler has been a Glen Rock Caroler for 56 years, 43 of those as Musical Director.  Raised in Glen Rock, he is a graduate of Susquehannock High School, Ursinus College, and Millersville University.  As 2013 Commencement speaker, Darryl was named to Susquehannock’s Distinguished Alumni list.  He was awarded Glen Rock’s Good Citizen of 2021, and inducted into Central York High School’s Performing Arts Hall of Fame in 2025 for his work as musical director and orchestra conductor of 23 High School and Community musicals at Central.  Darryl resides in Glen Rock with his wife, Pat, and often visits his daughter, Lori, at her home in Orlando, Florida. In addition to Glen Rock Carolers, Darryl continues his musical endeavors as organist at Zion Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, and plays French horn with Disney Cast Members in the Encore Orchestra of Orlando.
