In 1824, American Revolutionary War hero the marquis de Lafayette visited the United States of America for a Grand Tour of all 24 states, including a historic visit to York. Against the backdrop of a tumultuous election, a beloved hero of the American Revolution returned to America for the first time in forty years. Join public historian Elizabeth Reese in a lecture follow’s Lafayette’s tour, highlighting the important people, events, and legacy of America’s favorite fighting Frenchman.

About our presenter:

Elizabeth Reese is a public historian in the Washington, D.C. area.
Elizabeth has spent over a decade as an interpreter at federal historic sites, including Hamilton Grange National Memorial and the United States Capitol. Throughout her career, she has developed programs on civil rights, women’s history, and America’s Founding era. Her first book, Marquis de Lafayette Returns: A Tour of America’s National Capital Region, was published by The History Press (imprint of Arcadia Publishing) in 2024.
