Amish Country Queer

A documentary about queer nightlife, drag culture and trans joy in small-town America.

Amish Country Queer follows Brady Pappas, a trans non-binary photographer capturing the vibrant LGBTQ+ and drag culture in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. For Brady, photography is a way to reclaim parts of their life that carried rejection and isolation, turning them into pride and connection, and ultimately creating a living portrait of the evolving possibilities of queer life in small-town America.

Learn more about the film on Little Echo Productions website.

About the Filmmaker

Colleen C Brady is an independent filmmaker and creative producer who specializes in finding the fascinating in the everyday — drawn to underrepresented suburban and rural communities and stories that are quietly radical, life-affirming, and conversation-starting.

Their debut feature documentary, Firebird: Built to Burn (2023), won three Best Director awards and two Best Picture awards at festivals and is now streaming on Prime Video and Apple TV. Their follow-up short, Amish Country Queer (2025), has won three Best Documentary awards and serves as a proof of concept for an upcoming feature.

With experience in both independent filmmaking and commercial post-production, Colleen brings a creative vision and practical precision to every project from initial idea to final delivery. Alongside teaching and commercial editing, they continue to seek uplifting stories, motivated by a genuine love for storytelling.
