Experience life as a Revolutionary Soldier, from being mustered in and learning marching commands, to making musket balls and learning how to handle, load, and fire a (wooden) musket. Earn a promotion to Sergeant or Corporal and drill the troops under the supervision of General Washington’s officers, then test your newfound skills in a mock skirmish.
September 30, 2017, on the grounds of the York County History Center’s Colonial Complex at 157 West Market Street, join the Continental Army as a soldier during the Revolutionary War. Reenactors will portray General Washington and his officers , who will muster in new recruits at 10:00 am by having them sign a pledge to serve as commanded for the required time (which in this case is until 3:00 pm.) Troops will be taught how to make musket balls, and will be supervised in making one to take home. They will then be issued a (wooden) musket and taught how to load and fire it. Once the officers see who are reasonably proficient, they will promote Sergeants and Corporals from the ranks, who will be given epaulettes appropriate to their station. The new officers will take over drilling the soldiers under the watchful eyes of their superior officers. Troops will then be divided into two equal groups and conclude their service by conducting a mock skirmish.
