#GivingTuesday: November 28, 2017

#GivingTuesday brings the community together by reminding us of the good things we already have and encouraging us to support the amazing efforts of the non-profits that help make it special!

The goal of the History Center’s 2017 campaign “Send a Kid to the Museum: Building a Fund for Student Field Trips”  is to raise $2,000 for the fund that will help schools bring their students to our museums for field trips!

With your support, we will be able to launch this project in the Spring of 2018!

Many, many school children have NEVER been to a museum…any museum! And many school districts, with government funding diminishing, cannot afford to contract for buses or pay the admissions (even discounted admissions) so that students can have the experience of traveling out of school to visit a museum.

The York County History Center will use the money raised to create a fund that will be designated to help schools with the cost of admissions and transportation for student field trips to our museums.

From an article by Colleen Dilenschneider, a non-profit consultant, one of the Top 10 Reasons to Visit a Museum, came this entry:

Museums Make You Smarter.
There is no doubt that a primary role of museums is to engage and educate the community.  Museum exhibits inspire interest in an area of study, item, time period, or an idea– but there’s more going on in museums in regard to education than one might think. Schools rely heavily on museums to enhance the their curriculum. Galleries are becoming classrooms, and not just for kids. Even the museums themselves have interesting histories to inspire and educate visitors. It becomes nearly impossible to exit a museum without having gained any information or insight during your visit.

Just a little money can go a long way to help school students experience all that the York County History Center has to offer. Consider a gift at the following levels:

  • $6  – pays for one student to visit the museum on a field trip
  • $30 – pays for 5 students to visit the museum on a field trip
  • $90 – pays for 15 students to visit the museum on a field trip
  • $150 – covers ½ the cost of a bus to transport the students
  • $300 – covers the cost of a bus to transport the students
