DESCRIPTION:Calling all 4th – 6th graders who love history! The York County History Center is proud to offer our returning day camp this summer! \nIn celebration of America’s 250th this year\, the History Center’s Revolutionary Thinkers Summer Camp will explore how the core founding documents of the Articles of Confederation\, the US Constitution\, and the Declaration of Independence helped shape the nation we know today. This summer’s camp will pay special attention to the Declaration of Independence. \nThis camp is an opportunity to fan emerging sparks of interest with fun activities that include learning about our nation’s founding and being immersed in our local history through hands-on programs. Students will learn about 18th-century life\, tour local historic sites\, and embark on a journey that will help them understand and appreciate civics education in an experiential and fun setting. \nThe camp runs daily 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday\, Aug. 3-7. All students are welcome\, but preference will be given to students in York County schools. SUMMARY:World War II Briefings
DESCRIPTION:Our World War II Briefings program is biannual. The program dates fall closely with Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) and Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) in May and August. \nIn August we will welcome Lou Lavetan and John Bailey. The stories shared by these men will focus on local men who were members of the military during World War II. Lou will highlight the story of Rabbi Alexander Goode and the Immortals\, five men who sacrificed their lives to save others on the SS Dorchester after the ship was hit by a torpedo. John Bailey bring with him the first-hand account of his father Fred J. Bailey Jr.\, who served with the 66 Infantry Division\, 872nd Field Artillery Battalion\, Battery B during the war. SUMMARY:Writers' Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:The next Writers’ Roundtable meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday\, September 3.  Adriel Resh will present “Finding Liberators and Why it’s Important to the York Jewish Community.” She is director of Jewish Life and Culture at the York JCC.  Adriel is engaged in a multi-year project to locate and document York countians in uniform in World War II whose units liberated German-operated concentration camps in Europe. She has identified several of these servicemen\, including at least one living liberator. She tells their stories and how she went about her research. \nThis program will be in person and available in Zoom. Registration coming soon. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:York Civil War Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:The next York Civil War Roundtable will be September 16\, 2026 at 7:00 pm. \nSpeaker  –  Terrence W. Beltz \nProgram  –  York County in the Civil War – The 130th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry \n  \nProgram Summary  –  The author is a great-grandson of a 130th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry York County soldier. He takes the audience along with him following in the footsteps of the regiment’s men through their voices which are historically recorded in their personal diaries\, letters and memoirs. This often overlooked regiment endured Antietam’s “Bloody Lane”\, Fredericksburg’s “Stone Wall” and held the Union line during the Battle of Chancellorsville. The presentation concludes with post war biographical information about many of the soldiers. \n  \nBiography  –  Terrence W. Beltz\, born in Canton\, Ohio\, a resident of Earlysville\, Virginia\, completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Bowling Green State University in 1972 and his Master of Arts (History) at the University of Richmond in 2004. He retired from the Virginia Housing Development Authority in Richmond\, Virginia and is a retired U.S. Army Colonel with an ardent interest in 19th Century American history\, particularly the Civil War. He is the paternal great-grandson of Private William H. Seifert\, who served in Company C of the regiment. He is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War ( SUVCW). In his spare time\, he works on family genealogy and is a volunteer with \n“Find-A-Grave”. He is married to Patricia Beville Beltz\, together they have two daughters.

SUMMARY:Murals Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Scattered amongst the walls of York’s fabulous architecture\, 18 murals depict scenes of the county’s proudest moments and people. Leaving from the Colonial Complex\, guides will describe the background of 10 of them as you stroll down Market Street\, George\, and return via Philadelphia Street. \nAll York walking tours will start and end at the History Center museum and will last 60-90 minutes. Tours are recommended for ages 12 and older. Tickets for our walking tours are $10 for History Center members and $12 for non-members. Our walking tours are offered during the months of May through August and are typically a evening week night experience. \nThis walking tour will include a highlight from local artist Annelise Vuono who has painted several murals in Downtown York.
