SUMMARY:Second Saturday - June
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to welcome author and historian Dr. Emily Sneff to the History Center Museum! She will be presenting about her book “When the Declaration of Independence Was News.” Dr. Sneff is an early American historian and leading expert on the Declaration of Independence. She earned her Ph.D. in history from William & Mary. She is a consulting curator for exhibitions marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration at the Museum of the American Revolution and Historic Trappe. \nBlurb of the Book: \nPublishing for the 250th anniversary of the United States\, When the Declaration of Independence Was News focuses on the nation’s founding document at the moment of its creation in 1776\, before anyone knew what the legacy of the Declaration would be or if the United States would win the war against Great Britain. It explores how the Declaration was communicated to people in the new nation and around the Atlantic world and reveals the stories of the many people involved in the process of declaring independence\, from printers to soldiers to diplomats to translators. \nPurchase a copy of her book here.

SUMMARY:York Civil War Roundtable\, June
DESCRIPTION:All roads lead to York County and the county is the center of the universe. No doubt. You’d be hard pressed to find another county north of the Mason-Dixon Line with American Revolution and Civil War stories as rich. The 250th anniversaries of the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation give us an opportunity to look at connections between the two wars\, spaced only about 85 years apart. Jim McClure will present about military\, historical\, cultural and political connections between these two history-shaping eras in York County and national history. This is a follow-up to McClure’s York Civil War Roundtable presentation in 2025. He will summarize Part I as a lead-in to this 2026 presentation on June 17. \nJim McClure is a retired editor of the York Daily Record/ York Sunday News\, after serving in leadership positions at the news organization for more than 30 years. In that time\, he also served as USA Today Network’s state editor for Pennsylvania\, Delaware and Maryland\, overseeing six daily newsrooms. He previously served as East Region editor for Digital First Media with oversight of 24 daily newsrooms. He was senior on-site editor for coverage of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown\, Connecticut\, and the Boston Marathon bombing. He is the author or co-author of 10 books on York County history\, including works on the American Revolution\, Civil War and World War II. In 2025\, he was inducted into the Pennsylvania News Media Association Hall of Fame. He is a partner with Jamie Noerpel and Dominish Marie Miller in the streaming YouTube series “Hometown History.” \n

SUMMARY:July 4th at the History Center
DESCRIPTION:What better place to spend your July 4th festivities then immersed in American history at the History Center Museum! View the brand new “Revolutionary York” exhibit in the Brougher Gallery and explore our main gallery space with our American Revolution scavenger hunt. \nAdmission for the day is $10 for adults and $5 for students\, free for members to visit. \nPlease note the Fire Museum and Agricultural and Industrial Museum are both closed on July 4. Revolutionary York\, on view July 2026 through December 2028\, brings that extraordinary chapter to life. Explore how Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation and secured French support that turned the tide of war\, and how the Revolution was experienced by the full range of people who called York County home. As we mark 250 years of independence\, this exhibit asks what those founding ideals mean to us today. \n
