SUMMARY:Revolutionary Thinkers Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:Calling all 4th – 6th graders who love history! The York County History Center is proud to offer our returning day camp this summer! \nIn celebration of America’s 250th this year\, the History Center’s Revolutionary Thinkers Summer Camp will explore how the core founding documents of the Articles of Confederation\, the US Constitution\, and the Declaration of Independence helped shape the nation we know today. This summer’s camp will pay special attention to the Declaration of Independence. \nThis camp is an opportunity to fan emerging sparks of interest with fun activities that include learning about our nation’s founding and being immersed in our local history through hands-on programs. Students will learn about 18th-century life\, tour local historic sites\, and embark on a journey that will help them understand and appreciate civics education in an experiential and fun setting. \nThe camp runs daily 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday\, Aug. 3-7. All students are welcome\, but preference will be given to students in York County schools. SUMMARY:World War II Briefings
DESCRIPTION:Our World War II Briefings program is biannual. The program dates fall closely with Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) and Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) in May and August. \nIn August we will welcome Lou Lavetan and John Bailey. The stories shared by these men will focus on local men who were members of the military during World War II. Lou will highlight the story of Rabbi Alexander Goode and the Immortals\, five men who sacrificed their lives to save others on the SS Dorchester after the ship was hit by a torpedo. John Bailey bring with him the first-hand account of his father Fred J. Bailey Jr.\, who served with the 66 Infantry Division\, 872nd Field Artillery Battalion\, Battery B during the war. DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn about the churches and cemeteries tied to downtown York. These places of worship and burial tell a deeper story when our guides highlight the people connected to these places. \nTours will kick off from the History Center Museum. We suggest to order your tickets ahead of time as this allows us prepare the group. You can purchase tickets at the button above. \nAll York walking tours will start and end at the History Center museum and will last 60-90 minutes. Tours are recommended for ages 12 and older.
